MadKrafter Enterprises

For many years, I have aspired to make something of myself. To take my talents and make a business out of them. In the course of chasing that dream, I had to create business identities. After all, no business can exist without a name or logo. It all started in college with the need for subjects for the many graphic arts projects. Kapps and Company was born, along with an ensuing lineage of logos. My good friend Rick has often joked that I have more businesses than most corporations, yet I have never once started an actual business. He’s right.

Why haven’t I made one into a real business yet?

I don’t know, but I have suspicions. . .

The fact that I have too many interests and will often go from one to the other when the mood, opportunity or need strikes me.

Maybe.

The fact that I don’t have the economies of scale that the big factories have and the time, effort and cost that goes into making my furniture or guitars would create price tags that would exceed the budget of many potential clients?

Maybe.

The security of a full-time job with health insurance and a steady income? Maybe.

Scared?

...Maybe.

The MadKrafter Enterprises Brand names

Kapps & Company Bar and Grill

The original. Yes, it was college and there was inspiration for the idea . . . Beer. The name Kapps actually came from a beer-drinking game by the same name (although the spelling was probably different) Truthfully, I only played it a couple times, and I never actually drank the beer! Oh wait, I’m not in politics.

Bompi Boo & Braun

The first furniture company. When I got out of college and was in a house, I began purchasing tools to fill the garage. Bompi was my grandfather’s nickname. Boo (also a nickname) is a family friend who also taught me some woodworking. They are both my inspiration.

Braun Metalwood Fabrications

Added after years of getting frustrated with the prices of seemingly simple metal furniture in stores. I decided to do something about it - I bought a welder and learned how to use it. I love the strength and simplicity that steel adds to furniture.

“The strength of steel and the warmth of wood.”

My first trip to Lake Powell is what opened my eyes to landscape photography. Truth be told, my first real experience with a camera was college. I borrowed my mom’s Pentax K1000 and with complete ignorance and bliss shot some in-focus and many more out-of-focus college memories. This logo was once again designed by my friend Tim. Thanks again!

Kapps Guitar Company

This logo was designed by my good friend Tim. I wanted to build professional level guitars so I needed a professional looking logo. I called on Tim for the job of designing a simple, attractive, and identifiable logo. Thanks Tim.

Guitar building combines two of my loves - music and woodworking. In 1989 I met Rick in college, who introduced me to the guitar world. I have since owned six guitars; two acoustic and four electric. Sadly, though, I still can’t play. Now, the only guitars I own are  KGC Acoustic #1 and KGC Electric #1. Along with Rick I have met some amazing people and many musicians who have given me great insight and advice regarding what makes a great guitar. Some day I will learn how to play. Right now I will concentrate on building. Besides, I’m in good company - Leo Fender didn’t play guitar either, and he was inducted into both the Rock and Roll and Country Music Hall of Fame. Not bad for a guy that admittedly “could not play a note”
